Mona School of Business and Management taps William Mahfood for new chairman role

William Mahfood, Wisynco Group chairman, has been appointed chairman of Mona School of Business and Management (MSBM), effective Tuesday (August 1).

The University of the West Indies (UWI)-based business school, in a statement, indicated that Mahfood succeeds ex-NCB chief executive Patrick Hylton, who served as chairman since August 2021 in his second stint at the MSBM. 

Joining Mahfood are three other new directors: Audrey Tugwell Henry, Scotia Group Jamaica president and CEO; Steven Gooden, NCB Capital Markets chief execuitve; and Professor Sterling K. Frost, group deputy CEO of First Citizens Group, Trinidad and Tobago. 

“We express our sincere thanks to outgoing chairman Patrick Hylton and other outgoing directors,  Lisa Lewis and Professor Dale Webber for their sterling contribution and welcome the new directors to the MSBM board,” the Mona School of Business and Management noted.

Mahfood boasts an illustrious career in manufacturing and distribution which started in 1988 with Wisynco Trading Limited, leading to a 20 year stint as the managing director followed by his appointment as Wisynco Group chairman in 2014. His experience in this area also includes his tenure as director of Trade Wind Citrus Ltd, Worthy Park Estates and JP Snacks Caribbean. 

Mahfood’s business acumen is also leveraged in other industries as he serves as chairman of JN Money Services, director of the Jamaica National Group and Elite Diagnostic and served as president of the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) between 2014-16.

In recognition of his contribution to business and society, Mahfood was awarded the 2016 American Chamber of Commerce Business and Civic Leadership Award for Excellence – president’s award for his contribution to national development and Brand Jamaica.

He was also awarded the American Friends of Jamaica 2017 International Humanitarian Award in recognition of his contribution to the improvement of the lives of countless Jamaicans.
