
Montego Bay United surged to the top of the Wray and Nephew Jamaica Premier League following an emphatic 4-0 win over Spanish Town Police at Montego Bay Sports complex on Sunday.
Josiah Trimmingham opened the floodgate in the ninth minute before Timar Lewis doubled the advantage in minute 28. Further goals by D Brown in the 74th and J Clarke in the 84th put the gloss on the win.
The Xavier Gibert-coached Montego Bay jumped two paces to the top of 13 points while the promoted Spanish Town Police remained at the bottom with one point.
In the first game at the Montego Bay Complex, Treasure Beach and Harbour View battled to a 1-1 draw.
Trayvone Reid gave Harbour View the lead in the 16th minute before Raheem Porter earned a share of the points for Treasure Beach, scoring in the 31st minute.
Former champions Harbour View continued to struggle with just one win from five games and are sitting in 12th spot on five points, while the promoted Treasure Beach are doing little better in 11th spot on five points.
Meanwhile, Racing United slipped from top spot after being held to their second consecutive 0-0 draw, this time against Tivoli Gardens at the Dunbeholden field. Racing United, which are next door to Caymanas Park and in their second season in the premier league, slipped a spot to second with 11 points, while Tivoli Gardens are 10th with six points.
The competition continues on Monday with two games, with Molynes United taking on Portmore United in the curtain raiser at Waterhouse Mini-Stadium at 5 pm. In the feature encounter, Waterhouse FC tackle Phoenix Chapelton Maroons at 7:30 pm.
Molynes United are second from bottom in 13th spot on three points, while Portmore are third with 10 points and can go top with an impressive win.
