The country is expected to receive another 75,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine, courtesy of the African Medical Supplies Platform (AMSP) by the end of this week, says Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr. Christopher Tufton.
The announcement was made during today’s (March 31) sitting of Parliament’s joint select committee on the COVID-19 Pandemic and Related Matters.
The receipt of the AstraZeneca vaccines from Africa will account for Jamaica’s third shipment of COVID-19 vaccines and will enable the country to continue with inoculations through the month of April.
During the meeting, Tufton also announced that another 26,000 vaccine doses from the COVAX facility are expected to arrive in the month of April, though an exact date has not yet been provided.
The 75,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine from Africa will bring to 139,400 the total number of vaccine doses the country has received to date. With 50,000 doses being received from the Government of India and the remaining 14,400 from the COVAX facility.
