Just days after the country bade the Henry Reeves Brigade farewell, more Cuban medics arrived in Belize on Saturday (January 23), to bolster its novel coronavirus (COVID-19) response.

“The Ministry of Health and Wellness welcomed the new group from the Cuban Medical Brigade yesterday evening at the Philip Goldson International Airport,” the government agency stated.

“Acting Director of Health Services, Dr Melissa Diaz Musa, greeted the group and offered well wishes and assurances during their stay in Belize working alongside our health professionals,” the ministry continued.

The 29-member strong contingent arrived later than previously anticipated as Belize, as Health Minister Michel Chebat, in a farewell ceremony last Wednesday, said the new group was expected on Thursday.

Back on Wednesday, 59 Cuban medical professionals, working to assist Belize to contain the COVID-19 outbreak for the last 10 months, were repatriated.

Chebat thanked the Henry Reeves Brigade and the wider Cuban people for all the work and support given by the members of the delegation before its departure.

All 59 members of the Cuban brigade received certificates of appreciation.
