In a major development, the Port of Kingston is expediting an order of 12 Kalmar hybrid straddle carriers enhancing the port’s performance and sustainability.

These straddle carriers were ordered by Kingston Freeport Terminal Limited (KFTL) from Finnish company Cargotec during the third quarter of last year. The 12 Kalmar hybrid straddle carriers contribute to a fleet renewal plan aimed at enhancing performance, reliability, and sustainability within the terminal.

In addition to Kalmar straddle carriers, KFTL’s equipment fleet includes Kalmar reach stackers, empty container handlers (ECHs) and terminal tractors. The Kalmar hybrid straddle carriers for KFTL are connected to Kalmar Insight – a performance management tool that turns data into actionable, impactful insights.

As part of the agreement, Kalmar will also deliver a comprehensive spare parts package to support the ongoing maintenance of the machines by local technicians.

Established in 2015, KFTL is a strategic transhipment hub in the Caribbean and part of terminal link, a joint venture between French shipping and logistics company CMA CGM and China Merchants Port (CMP).
