Jamaica has secured more airlifts into the island, as Frontier Airlines is expanding its services to the country, as the low-cost carrier set to launch new flights to Montego Bay.
The airline has announced that as of next month it will be launching a new service from the Magic City of Miami to the Sangster International Airport in Jamaica’s second city of Montego Bay. The move comes as Frontier Airlines resumes its expansion in the Caribbean.
Since the reopening of tourism in the island in June last year after a three month shut down of the sector due to COVID-19, tourism officials have managed to woo back a number of airlines to the island with new flights also being secured. Frontier Airlines being one of them will be operating three weekly services into Montego Bay on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays.
The first flight is set to take place on May 28. This will be Frontier’s latest Caribbean expansion out of Miami International Airport, where the carrier first kicked off its Caribbean flights in 2019.
Move into Jamaica being lauded
Commenting on the move to fly into Montego Bay, Frontier’s Senior Vice President, remarked, “we’re excited to grow again in Miami with new nonstop flights to Montego Bay. Mobay’ is an incredibly unique destination with countless activities, extraordinary scenery and plenty of warm sunshine. This new service offers travelers unprecedented affordability and convenience to visit this top vacation spot.”
For her part, Lester Sola, Director and CEO of Miami International Airport said, “we’re excited to see Frontier adding yet another international route to their extensive network of flights at Miami International Airport. Jamaica continues to be one of our busiest international markets and Frontier’s new Montego Bay service will provide those travelers with even more travel options between our two popular tourism destinations.”
Having first kicked off its Caribbean flights in 2019, Frontier has since then set up a 130-employee crew base in Miami at the beginning of 2020. It is likely that the carrier will continue ramping up its Caribbean network out of Miami.
