Mottley extends Barbados lockdown as COVID-19 outbreak worsens

Prime Minister of Barbados Mia Mottley has extended the ‘national pause’ in the Caribbean country for another two weeks as novel coronavirus (COVID-19) infections continue unabated.

Mottley announced the lockdown extension during a national address on Monday (February 15). The national pause, which was initially slated to end on Wednesday, February 17, will now be reviewed on Sunday, February 28.

Barbados confirmed 207 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the island’s tally to 2,268. According to the Ministry of Health and Wellness, 1,639 persons have made a full recovery from the infectious disease to date, while 24 patients died due to coronavirus-related complications.
