Mount Pleasant Football Academy (MPFA) reaffirmed their commitment to community development and social responsibility with a donation of groceries and toiletries to the Mustard Seed Communities’ Jacob’s Ladder facility in St Ann on Tuesday.

The donation, some of which were collected through the club’s recent donation drive held during the Concacaf Caribbean Cup semifinal second leg match against Defence Force FC on November 5 at the National Stadium, will support the daily nutritional and personal care needs of the 155 residents currently housed at Jacob’s Ladder.

In expressing their gratitude, Assistant Administrator of the Jacob’s Ladder community Kadiann Drake said that the contribution was “well received and will go a long way in enhancing the nutrition and overall care of the residents.”

Mount Pleasant FA’s Sporting Director, Paul Christie, underscored the motivation behind the club’s continued outreach efforts:

“At Mount Pleasant, we believe football is more than what happens on the pitch; it’s about uplifting lives and using our platform to make a difference. The Mustard Seed Communities have been doing tremendous work, and we are proud to partner with them in supporting their mission,” said Christie.

“This, though, is only the beginning, as we will continue to have discussions on how we can make this more sustainable. We see the needs of the Mustard Seed Community, and we are fortunate to be in a position where we can help, and we will do our best to help them,” he added.

Beyond the immediate donation, Mount Pleasant FA have committed to long-term support of the Mustard Seed Communities, pledging continuous contributions of both goods and financial assistance to the Jacob’s Ladder facility.

This initiative is part of Mount Pleasant’s wider community outreach program, which recently saw members of the Academy partnering with the St Ann Chamber of Commerce and the Jenny Jenny Foundation to deliver care packages to families in the Bamboo community.

Marketing and Communications Manager at Mount Pleasant Renardo Brown reassured the club’s commitment to helping its communities.

“I think what hurricane Melissa has taught us as a club is that we need to play a bigger role in all the communities in St Ann. We have intensified discussions internally about launching our Community Outreach Programme,” said Brown.

“We are in conversations with the Social Development Commission through the St Ann Parish Manager to see how we can partner to help communities not only recover from the passage of Hurricane Melissa but just help in the development of these areas,” he continued.

In addition to donations to the Mustard Seed Community and the St Ann Chamber of Commerce, Mount Pleasant FA have committed to donating close to half a million dollars in cash to Montego Bay United FC and Treasure Beach FC, the two Jamaica Premier League clubs most impacted by the passage of Hurricane Melissa.

The team is also preparing for their Concacaf Caribbean Cup Final against O&M FC, with the first leg in Dominican Republic on November 25 and the return leg at the National Stadium in Kingston on December 2. By virtue of being in the final, Mount Pleasant has also qualified for the 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup for the first time.
