The People’s National Party’s (PNP) Candidate for St Andrew North Central, Christopher Henry, is demanding a thorough investigation into the fatal shooting of 28-year-old Shaquille Dawkins at his home in 100 Lane last Friday morning.
Information received by the candidate is that Shaquille had been home when the police came, after which two shots were heard.
The MP candidate is, therefore, calling for a full investigation by the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) into the circumstances surrounding this shooting. “While we support the work of the JCF to serve and protect, this situation needs INDECOM to fully probe and investigate and to determine whether this was an extra-judicial killing wherein the police acted beyond their powers.”
Henry noted that his call is against the background of the significant increase recently of fatal shootings and excessive use of force by the police in recent times.
He continued: “I urge and ask all residents, neighbours and eyewitnesses to please give all information to INDECOM to further this investigation. I am also available to accompany anyone who has information or evidence to deliver to INDECOM to aid their investigation and ensure that this matter is dealt with in a thorough and transparent manner.”
