

Munro College’s Romario Hines, Shaquane Gordon, Ryan Achua of St Jago and Queens High Hannah Charles stole the show at the McKinley/Wint Track and Field Classic on Saturday, January 18 on the grounds of Calabar High School.
Hines won his heat in the Class One 100m in 10.60 (-0.2) and was joint-fastest along with Calabar’s Shaquane Gordon who won heat one in 10.60 (-1.3). Zachary Jabarai Wallace of Maggotty High was second behind Gordon in 10.61 and was third quickest overall.
Hines would return later and threw down a personal best of 47.02 clocking in the 400m which was the fastest this season, an early indicator that he could do something special this year. His personal best for the 100m is 10.52 and 20.78 for the 200m.

Diwayne Sharpe of Calabar dropped a 48.33 in the Class Two 400 while the promising Khieme Campbell of St Jago did 51.88 in Class Three.
Sabrina Dockery of Lacovia High was fastest in the girls’ Class One 400m winning in 55.89 while in Class Two, Sashana Johnson went even faster winning in 55.65.
Calabar standard bearer Gordon also won two events winning the 110m hurdles in 14.40 but was second overall to Daniel Clarke of Kingston College who won his heat in 14.14.

Byron Walker of Calabar showed that he will be the man to beat in the Class Two 100m stopping the clock at 10.65 ahead of his teammate Ched Brown with 10.85. JC’s Malique Dennis was third best with 10.90. In Class Three, Calabar’s Javane Clayton was fastest with 11.17.
Kenya’s Ryan Achau of St Jago High continues to have tongues wagging stopping the clock at 3:54.51 in the Class One 1500m a time well below last year’s winner Brian Kiprop of KC who clocked 3:56.81.
Just to put Achua’s time into perspective, the next best time on Saturday was Justin Webb of Calabar who did 4:19.99.

Thywaine Sterling of William Knibb High was also impressive in Class Two winning the 1500m in 4:13.65, well ahead of Calabar’s Obrian Clarke in 4:21.47.
Hannah Charles of the Queen’s School was most impressive in the girls’ Class One 1500m clocking 4:59.40 almost 10 seconds better than second-placed Rihanna Morgan of Hydel with 5:09.61.
The outstanding Shanoya Douglas eased to an impressive 11.48 (0.8) in the Girls’ Class Two 100m ahead of Tiana Marshall of Wolmer’s in 11.91. They were the only athletes to dip under 12 seconds in all classes. The Class One winner was Rohanna Sudlow of St Catherine High with 12.32.
However, Marshall would return and clock 13.90 to be the fastest in the Class Two 100m hurdles.
