Friends and of local singer-songwriter Della Manley and members of the local music fraternity are uniting to host a fund-raising concert to support the artiste’s ongoing recovery, following her hospitalisation in March.

Manley, also the daughter-in-law of late Prime Minister Michael Manley, is the composer of reggae single ‘I Know‘. She collaborated with dub poet Mutabaruka on the track.

The artiste has been recovering from a vehicular collision in Montego Bay, after a performance at the Half Moon Hotel.

One GoFundMe account reports that she spent three weeks in an intensive care unit, subsequently, and that she needed blood donations during that time.

The Music Unites Jamaica Foundation (MUJF) and The JAM is BACK are collaborating on the special fundraiser to be held on Thursday (June 19), at 22 Jerk restaurant. Start time is 7:00 pm.

The JAM is BACK has been the host of a long-running Thursday night jam session for several years. The weekly event is a free and open space for musicians and music lovers.

This week’s staging will feature performances from a diverse line-up of local singers and musicians, including Charmaine Limonius, Janine Jkuhl, Sandra Morgan Crawford, Rosina Christina Moder, Peter Ashbourne, Orville Hammond, Wayne McGregor, among others.

Other musicians are also invited to attend and participate in the jam session, in keeping with the spirit of the event.

All proceeds from the night will go toward Manley’s medical expenses and ongoing care. While encouraging the public to show support by attending, the musical fraternity said a donation box will be available at the venue throughout the evening.

For those unable to attend, donation details are available upon request from the MUJF email at [email protected].
