Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce to retire after Paris Olympics

Jamaican sprint legend Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce says her decision to retire is primarily driven by her longing to devote more time to her family, who have made significant sacrifices for the advancement of her career.
In an interview with Essence magazine, Fraser-Pryce shared that she will retire after the Paris Olympic games, scheduled to start in July 2024.
“My son needs me,” said the three-time Olympic champion.
“My husband and I have been together since before I won in 2008. He has sacrificed for me. We’re a partnership, a team. And it’s because of that support that I’m able to do the things that I have been doing for all these years. And I think I now owe it to them to do something else,” said the ‘Mommy Rocket’ athlete.

She made sure to clarify that she still has great love for the sport, noting that “there’s not a day I’m getting up to go practice and I’m like, ‘I’m over this’.”
A dominant force in women’s sprinting, Fraser-Pryce started her professional career in the late 2000s, amassing many accolades over more than a decade for the 100m, 200m, and relay events.
Fraser-Pryce is a three-time Olympic champion, a 10-time world champion, and a four-time Olympic Games silver medallist.
She is also a five-time Diamond League final winner.
