Leading Jamaican manufacturer, National Baking Company says it is aware of a worrying job application email circulating in recent days purportedly bearing its logo and requesting work-eager citizens pay a “processing fee”.

The Hendrickson family-owned company, in a statement distancing itself from the job scam on Wednesday (November 3), warned it does not engage with potential candidates in this manner.

“The company would like to warn the general public that this email regarding a ‘Jobs for Jamaican Program’ requesting a one-time payment of $10,000 to a business account is not in any way associated with the National Baking Company or its affiliates,” the company declared on its Facebook page.

While National Baking Company—makers of the National, HoMade and HTB brands—did not state the extent to which the job scam had proliferated, it urged anyone in receipt of this email to report the scam to the authorities.

It is the latest in a series of job scams, which appear to have become more prevalent in Jamaica in recent years, affecting several large-scale entities.

Among them, the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) was hit twice in 2015 and 2019 by respective job scams and recruitment hoaxes.
