Jamaica College player Giovanni Taylor fired Arnett Gardens to a crucial 1-0 win over Dunbeholden FC at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex, rekindling their hopes of making the Wray and Nephew Jamaican Premier League (JPL) top six playoff.

Taylor netted in the 83rd minute as Arnett Gardens moved to 26 points in eighth spot and are four points adrift of the last playoff, but they have two games in hand.

It was another setback for Dunbeholden, and they slipped a spot to ninth on 25 points as they missed a glorious chance of climbing into the top six.

Meanwhile, Montego Bay United continued their rich vein of form, brushing aside Molynes United 3-0 and maintaining their seven-point lead at the top of the JPL on 45 points. Nashardo Gibbs opened the scoring in the 18th minute before Brian Brown doubled the advantage in minute 61. Veteran Jourdaine Fletchers sealed the win in the 68th minute.

Molynes United continued to see their faint playoff hopes dashed as they now sit on 22 points in 11th spot. They are six points adrift of the sixth-placed team, Tivoli Gardens, which battled to a 2-2 draw with Harbour View.

Tivoli’s Nickalia Fuller scored a penalty and a free kick in the 13th and 45th minutes. Ricardo Oldfield replied for Harbour View, and a late goal by Oquassa Chong in the 90+8 minute earned Harbour View a share of the points.

Tivoli Gardens remained in sixth spot on 28 points while Harbour View remained in the relegation zone in 13th spot on 16 points. They are four points adrift of relegation safety.

Racing United stayed in touch with the leader with a come-from-behind 3-1 win over cellar-dwelling Spanish Town Police FC.

Andre Clennon gave the promoted Spanish Town a 24th-minute lead, but Racing hit back and hit back hard. Tajay Grant netted twice in the 47th and 69th minutes, and Nickyle Ellis scored in the 60th minute.

Racing United are second with 38 points, while Spanish Town look set to be relegated, sitting at the bottom on nine points.

At Drewsland, home team Waterhouse FC clipped Treasure Beach FC 1-0 courtesy of a Colorado Murray strike in the 58th minute. Waterhouse are fifth on 30 points while Treasure Beach stayed just above the relegation zone in 12th spot on 20 points.

Caribbean champion Mount Pleasant blanked Phoenix Chapelton Maroons 2-0 following a double strike by Raheem Edwards in the 1st and 81st minutes. They are still in fourth spot on 33 points but have four games in hand on the leaders. Chapelton are 10th on 25 points, still in with a shot at making the playoffs.

At the Ferdie Neita Park home team, Portmore United edged Cavalier SC 1-0 and stayed in third spot on 33 points. Tariq Ximines scored the winner in the 68th minute. Cavalier’s poor run continued, and they are now in eighth spot on 26 points.
