The National Water Commission says construction works to upgrade water and sewer infrastructure will start along Upper Munroe Road in St Andrew on February 2, with completion expected by March 6. 

The project forms part of the $1.2 billion Munroe to Seaview Avenue Pipeline Project. The project began last year to improve water and sewerage systems in areas including Old Hope Road, Retreat Avenue, Seymour Avenue, New Kingston, Seaview Avenue, Mona Road, Wellington Drive, and Munroe Road.

For the Upper Munroe Road segment, the works will be carried out in two phases.

Phase One will extend from the Munroe/Wellington traffic signal to Canberra Crescent, where crews will install both water and sewer pipelines. Phase Two will continue from Canberra Crescent to Old Hope Road (North), involving similar pipeline installation.

Construction activities will take place Monday to Friday from 9 am to 6 pm, with weekend work possible to ensure timely completion. 

The NWC has issued traffic adjustments for the construction period:

Phase One: No vehicular access along Upper Munroe Road from the Munroe/Wellington traffic signal to Canberra Crescent.

Phase Two (from February 9): Vehicles can travel along Upper Munroe Road only up to Canberra Crescent from the Munroe/Wellington traffic signal. Access from Old Hope Road to Munroe Road will be restricted to residents and businesses. Motorists may use Wellington Drive to reach Mona Road, as that roadway has been reinstated.

The public is urged to plan travel accordingly, follow posted signage, and obey instructions from on-site traffic personnel.
