The National Dance Theatre Company (NDTC) is set to put its artistic excellence on display for the benefit of the elderly hurricane victims on Friday (August 9) at the Little Theatre, Kingston, beginning at 8:00 pm.
All proceeds from the evening dance go towards CCRP’s relief efforts. The event will be hosted in collaboration with the Caribbean Community of Retired Persons (CCRP).
CCRP board director Patricia Reid-Waugh encouraged members as well as the general public to support the presentation and the cause.
“We’re happy to be partnering with a Jamaican cultural institution such as the NDTC in order to help meet the pressing needs of seniors across the island following the passage of the hurricane,” Reid-Waugh said.
NDTC artistic director Marlon Simms said the company viewed the charity night as an opportunity to play its role in supporting development and honouring the selflessness of its founders.
The company, he added, will once again be showcasing a range of dances, combining new works and beloved favourites, across several nights of performances. Another highly anticipated element of the show will be the performance of the NDTC Singers, whose dynamic vocals add another dimension to the presentation.
The CCRP has spent $450,000 on 100 care packages of food items and toiletries for seniors affected by Hurricane Beryl, prepared by Food for the Poor.
They were distributed by the National Council for Senior Citizens (NCSC) team.
A donation of 100 sets of bed linen and towels from the Sandals Foundation to CCRP was also handed over to the NCSC’s CEO, Cassandra Morrison, who said they were sorely needed.
