Near 400 murdered since beginning of the year

Jamaica’s murder tally is surging to the 400 mark after some 371 Jamaicans were murdered island wide up to Saturday, May 4.

This is according to the latest Serious Crimes Report published by the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).

Despite the still high figure, according to the statistics, this is a 13 per cent decline in murders compared to the same period last year when some 427 murders were reported.

The parish of St James, the St Andrew South police division, Westmoreland and the St Catherine South police division recorded the highest number of murders to date with 48, 33, 32 and 29.

There has been a 6.2 per cent increase in shootings for the period.

Rapes, robberies and break-ins have been on the decline.
