Streaming giant Netflix has made a significant move in the ongoing ‘streamer wars’ by securing the rights to certain HBO content.

The comedy-drama TV series Insecure is the first HBO title to arrive on Netflix, with all five seasons now available for streaming.

Netflix spokespersons have confirmed that additional popular HBO shows, including Band of Brothers, The Pacific, Six Feet Under, Ballers, and True Blood will be released on the platform at a later date. It is worth noting that the select library of HBO titles will be released on Netflix on a non-exclusive basis, meaning they will continue to stream on Max, Warner Bros Discovery’s (WBD) recently rebranded streaming service.

Notably, HBO’s most popular titles, such as Game of Thrones, Succession, and The Wire, are not included in the list of titles that will be available on Netflix. Nevertheless, this move signifies the increasing willingness of media companies to license their content to other platforms.

This isn’t the first time that WBD has licensed its HBO programming to other media companies. Recently, WBD distributed 2,000 hours of content, including the popular HBO series Westworld, to Roku and Tubi.
