Netflix is breathing new life into the Terminator franchise with the release of the first trailer for the upcoming animated series, ‘Terminator Zero‘.

The series, set in Japan, tells the story of Malcolm Lee, played by André Holland, who has been developing another artificial intelligence (AI) system that is intended to compete with the main storyline’s Skynet.

As Judgment Day approaches in 1997, Lee finds himself and his three children also pursued by both an unknown robot assassin and a mysterious soldier from the year 2022 who has been sent to protect him.

The series stars Timothy Olyphant as the voice of The Terminator, Sonoya Mizuno as the voice of Eiko, the soldier from the future, and Rosario Dawson as the voice of Kokoro the Skynet AI rival.

The series will be released on August 29 on Netflix.
