Montego Bay’s famed Hip Strip now boasts an exciting new attraction—the Art Walk—a vibrant display of murals celebrating some of Jamaica’s most iconic musical genres and artistes.

Located along Jimmy Cliff Boulevard, popularly known as the Hip Strip, the art walk was officially unveiled on Monday, June 2, near the S Hotel in Montego Bay.

The initiative is the brainchild of Christopher Issa, CEO of S Hotels Jamaica, and aims to enhance the cultural and artistic appeal of the area.

The Art Walk on the Hip Strip in Montego Bay, St James, was unveiled on Monday, June 2, 2025.

Issa shared that the concept was inspired by the work of Kingston Creative, a non-profit organisation known for revitalising spaces in the capital city through art.

“We reached out to Andrea Dempster of Kingston Creative to ask if something similar could be done here in Montego Bay,” Issa noted.

The project had an unexpected but touching beginning.

“Our first mural was painted by a tourist who was on his honeymoon and wanted to give something back to the island. That small act sparked a vision,” he added.

The art walk features colourful and engaging murals of several renowned Jamaican artistes, including Jimmy Cliff, Peter Tosh, Toots and the Maytals, Cocoa Tea, the Jolly Boys, Lady Saw, Buju Banton, and Vybz Kartel. The display adds a creative and interactive element to one of Montego Bay’s most visited locations.

The project is expected to grow and evolve, offering both locals and visitors a unique way to engage with Jamaica’s rich musical heritage.
