Jamaican-English footballer Raheem Sterling releases his fourth signature New Balance boot that pays homage to the journey it took for the Chelsea forward to make it to the pinnacle of English football.
The boots are Furon 7s, released under the name ‘Route to success’.
According to the 27-year-old football player, the boots are also dedicated to his sister, Lamika Sterling, who often accompanied him on his route to training.
“Three buses to get to training. 18, 182 and 140. I’ll never forget those numbers. No matter what, my big sister Lakima with me every single day. My latest boot is dedicated to her and all those moments we shared together, on the #RouteToSuccess,” tweeted Sterling today (October 3).
In the beginning of his career, Sterling would take three buses across London to make it to his training sessions, which he attended five times a week.
Its bright blue colour with colourful lines and shapes are inspired by the Transport for London (TFL) bus seats that Sterling would sit in on his way to practice in England.
Also featured on the soleplate of the shoes is his sister’s name with the phrase ‘route to success’ on the lacing.
Sterling debuted the boots in Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace and will continue to wear them for his upcoming fixtures this season.
