Wolverine will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), played by Hugh Jackman, in the upcoming Deadpool 3 movie. Ryan Reynolds, who plays the titular character, confirmed the news on his social media and Youtube yesterday (September 27).
The last time X-Men fans saw Jackman as Wolverine was in 2016’s R-rated Logan, where the character famously died and was touted as Jackman’s last appearance as the character.
The Deadpool films are the top-grossing titles under the X-Men franchise, released by 20th Century Fox, which has since been acquired by Disney in 2019.
Stranger Things producer Shawn Levy, who directed Free Guy and The Adam Project, will be directing and the movie will retain the writers from the previous Deadpool films.
Writers for the movie have promised the film will remain R-rated despite the MCU’s family friendly image.
The movie will be released on September 6, 2024.
