The Ministry of Health and Wellness has received a donation of 45,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine for the COVID-19 virus from the United States Government that is now available to the public.

According to officials from the health ministry, the vaccines arrived on December 13.

The doses will be available to all members of the public for both initial vaccination and booster doses. The doses can be received at any of the more than 78 vaccination sites listed on the ministry’s website.

Jamaica recorded its first case of COVID-19 in March 2020. A drastic increase in cases later led to islandwide restrictions and mandatory mask physical distancing mandates.

Since then, the number of new cases has drastically decreased to less than five in the latest weekly update on the virus between November 28 and December 4.

As of December 4, Jamaica’s positivity rate is at 1.6 per cent.
