Kingsmen Sports Enterprise, the new Jamaican Caribbean Premier League (CPL) franchise holder, is seeking to recruit the hard-hitting Jamaican batting trio of Rovman Powell, Andre Russell and Brandon King.

The trio are among the key targets for the American-based Kingsmen Sports, which is hoping to assemble a title-contending team in this year’s CPL competitions, which bowls off this summer.

The competition, which is slated to run from August to September 20, will see the return of a Jamaican franchise after a two-year absence, following the successful takeover of Kingsmen, owned by Pakistan-born businessman Fawad Sarwar.

Powell and King were part of the victorious Jamaica Tallawahs side in 2022, while the 37-year-old Russel was part of the 2012 and 2016 ICC World T20 winning West Indies teams, announcing his retirement from international cricket last year.

Powell and King are currently in India with the West Indies team as part of their 15-member squad for the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, where they booked a semi-final place defeating Zimbabwe by a huge 105-run margin on Monday. 

No word has come whether the franchise, whose name is yet to be publicly announced, has been successful in acquiring the services of the batting trio. 

Powell, who guided the Jamaica Tallawahs to the title in 2022, captained the Barbados Royals for the last three seasons, while King, who led the Tallawahs in 2023 before their hiatus, also played for the Royals in 2025, having joined the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons in 2024.

Russell left the Tallawahs ahead of the 2022 season to join the Trinbago Knight Riders, where he won the title with them last season.
