The Women in Maritime Association Caribbean (WiMAC) has a newly elected governing council.

Newly elected president of the WiMAC, who was speaking at a regional conference and 6th annual general meeting held between October 3 and 5 at the Coral Spring Hotel in Trelawny, said: “The Caribbean Sea isn’t what separates us, it is what binds us together, we will grow as SEAsters, from strength to strength.”

The newly elected governing council consists of president Dr Evette Smith Johnson of Jamaica, immediate past president Tamara Lowe-James of Dominica, vice-president of research and development Suzette Balkaran of Trinidad and Tobago, director of finance Ilaisa Lila of Suriname, vice-president of public relations and marketing Tricia King of St Kitts and Nevis, vice president of membership Abigail Bryan of Jamaica, member-at-large Carlita Benjamin of Dominica, director of corporate affairs Raquel Forbes of Jamaica, vice president of women and development Katina Benn of Guyana, and operations manager Valerie Simpson of Jamaica.

The regional conference brought together members, who are affectionately called SEAsters, from 15 Caribbean countries.

The conference hosted 80 participants including the newly launched student chapter at the Caribbean Maritime University.
