The 2025/2026 Parliamentary Year will commence this Thursday (February 13) with the traditional Ceremonial Opening of Parliament at Gordon House.

This year Custos of Kingston Steadman Fuller will deputise for Governor General Sir Patrick Allen in delivering the Throne Speech at a joint sitting of the two Houses of Parliament.  The Throne Speech will outline the Government’s legislative agenda for the upcoming parliamentary year.

The Ceremonial Opening of Parliament is a significant event in Jamaica’s governance landscape, symbolising the start of a new legislative session. The proceedings will feature the formal arrival of parliamentary officials, members of both Houses of Parliament, and other dignitaries and will include the traditional inspection of the Guard of Honour.

The proceedings will be broadcast live via the Public Broadcasting Corporation of Jamaica (PBCJ), the Jamaica Information Service (JIS) and other media platforms.

After the ceremony, the House of Representatives will convene at 2:00 pm for the tabling of the 2025/2026 Estimates of Expenditure, setting out Jamaica’s national budget for the fiscal year.

The 2025/2026 Budget Debate is set to start on March 11, with Finance Minister Fayval Williams making her maiden presentation.
