X, formerly known as Twitter, unveiled on Friday, September 1, an updated privacy policy that will allow the social media platform to use subscriber data to train machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) models.
The policy changes are set to take effect on September 29.
In section 2.1 of the updated policy, titled X Privacy Policy, on the X website, it reads: “We may use the information we collect and publicly available information to help train our machine learning or artificial intelligence models for the purposes outlined in this policy.”

X recently announced a change to allow verified companies to post job listings, which will require users to provide employment and education history. The company also outlined in the policy plans to collect and utilise user biometric data for “safety, security, and identification purposes”.
X pointed out that in addition, it uses the information it collects “to provide, personalise, and operate its products and services. This includes improving the user experience, showing relevant content and ads, suggesting people to follow, and enabling cross-service features”.
Users have until September 29, when the policy takes effect, to decide if they consent by remaining a user on the platform.
