The new United States Ambassador to Jamaica Nick Perry, has landed!

Perry, who replaces Donald Tapia, arrived in the island yesterday (May 11) after being sworn in by United States Vice President Kamala Harris on Monday (May 9).

The Jamaica-born Perry, a graduate of Kingston College and New York assemblyman, had been confirmed by voice vote in the US Senate on March 10.

He now takes up office after a lengthy process that began after the Senate received his nomination on November 17 last year and it was referred to the Committee on Foreign Relations.

The Committee held a hearing on his nomination on February 9 and reported “favourably” on his candidacy on March 8.
