The promoted Treasure Beach FC, Waterhouse FC and Phoenix Chapelton Maroons jumped to the top of the Wray and Nephew Premier League with wins on Sunday as the highly-anticipated new season kicks off.
Treasure Beach out of St Elizabeth got the perfect start, albeit against fellow promoted team Spanish Town Police, as goals by Shaquille Jones (63rd) and Daniel Hardy (90+1) pushed them to joint top on three points.
Spanish Town Police, which are playing in Jamaica’s top flight for the very first time, are pointless after one game, but this was one of the games they certainly would be hoping to get a point from.
In the first game at Stadium East, Waterhouse blanked Molynes United 2-0 with goals from Mario Simms (14th) and the returning Colorado Murray (54th).

While in the feature encounter, champions Cavalier FC and Harbour View battled to a 0-0 draw and a share of the points.
At Turners Oval in Clarendon, Phoenix Chapelton Maroons edged Tivoli Gardens 2-1 to be in third spot on three points behind both Waterhouse and Treacher Beach on goal difference.
Veteran Leaughn Williams grabbed two goals, opening the scoring with the first goal of the season in the third minute. Alton Lewis pulled Tivoli Gardens levelled in the 37th before Williams found the winner in the 58th minute.
The big clash between the heavy-spending Mount Pleasant FA and Montego Bay United ended in an exciting 2-2 draw at Drax Hall.
Sahquiel Bradford gave Mount Pleasant an 18th-minute lead before Montego Bay turned it around with goals in two minutes by Jahmari Clarke in the 50th and Dwight Merrick in the 52nd.
But Mount Pleasant were not to be denied a point as Owen Jumpp popped up in minute 81, securing a share of the points.
