Minister of National Security Dr Horace Chang has urged the 257 new police constables to use their affinity for technology to support efforts to advance the modernisation of the police force.

Chang, who delivered the main address at the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s (JCF) graduation ceremony on Friday, pointed out that the police force has incorporated advanced technologies to effectively fight crime, and the new graduates can further this thrust.

“The Jamaica Constabulary Force is leveraging technology to become more effective and more responsive. As millennial police officers, you are uniquely equipped with creative minds and talents…You possess an almost innate understanding of the technology, making you the torchbearers who will take Jamaica’s police force through the 5th Industrial Revolution,” said the minister of national security.

Chang said that the Government is committed to modernising the police force and is far advanced in its programme to overhaul and create modern police facilities.

He shared that multiple police stations have been renovated or built to include advanced technical equipment and create an effective working space for officers. Additionally, the JCF’s radio network is being rehabilitated and expanded to ensure islandwide coverage and improve communication between officers.
