National Housing Trust (NHT) has opened the application window for homeowners impacted by the passage of Hurricane Beryl in July and are seeking to access disaster relief facilities.
The application window will close on September 30, 2024.
The NHT disaster relief facilities include a special loan for repairs to damaged homes and a grant of up to $300,000. Low-income contributors and mortgagors can access the grant for assistance.
Additionally, the trust will provide a moratorium to existing mortgagors having difficulty making repayments following the hurricane on July 3.
In the meantime, the NHT said that contributors can also access the special home improvement loan facility.
“Through the special home improvement facility, homeowners (to include NHT mortgagors, former NHT mortgagors and non-NHT mortgagors) are able to acces a loan amount of $1.5 million for home repairs,” the NHT said in a release.
“The loan is being offered with a tenure of up to 15 years and up to age 70 (whichever comes first). The loan can also be used to make disaster-resistant improvements to the home,” the release added..
NHT contributors between the ages of 18 and 70 are eligible to apply and their names must appear on the title of the property for which they are requesting the loan. The title will be used as collateral.
For the special home improvement loan, NHT will calculate interest using its rates that correspond with income levels. The interest rates can range between zero per cent and five per cent.
