American actor and talk show host Nick Cannon, who last week revealed the loss of his youngest son to a battle with brain cancer, disclosed further details surrounding the untimely death of five-month-old Zen.

Coming a week after the announcement was made on The Nick Cannon Show, the actor explained that it was after witnessing the irregular breathing pattern of their son in August, that the couple brought him in for a doctor’s visit. It was then that he was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer called hydrocephalus.

Both Nick and Alyssa were immediately concerned and began asking all the questions that were in the best interest of their son.

Cannon explained that they asked about preventative measures and how long would he have to live providing the failure of the measures.

The direction of the conversation quickly shifted to, “‘How can we give him the best life for the time that he does have?’ It could be weeks, it could be months, it could be years.”

Continuing, Cannon shared that when addressing the quality of life conversations, his son would have a future of being hooked up to machines for the rest of his lifetime.

“From someone who’s had to deal with chemotherapy before, I know that pain. To see that happen to a 2-month-old, I didn’t want that. I didn’t want him to suffer,” Cannon said.

It was during the Thanksgiving holidays that things took a turn for the worst, as Zen experienced greater problems breathing.

“You could tell he was struggling,” Cannon explained. “He was gasping for air. We’d wake up, and he wouldn’t be breathing for maybe five to 10 seconds at a time, and then he’d let out a huge gasp. You could see it frightened him. It was the scariest thing I’ve ever experienced.”

“Over the weekend I lost my youngest son to a condition called hydrocephalus that is pretty much a malignant, midline brain tumor—brain cancer,” Cannon shared last week with his audience.

The Love Don’t Cost A Thing actor spent his son’s last weekend in California where they drove to the beach and the actor got to hold his son for the very last time.
