The Queen of Rap is back!

And she’s realigning with her roots.

Trinidad-born rapper Nicki Minaj on Friday (May 14) re-released her 2009 mixtape Beam Me Up Scotty, making it available for the first time on all digital streaming platforms.

The mixtape, which includes 23 songs and lasts almost 80 minutes from start to finish, features three new tracks, including a remix of Jamaican dancehall singer Skillibeng’s Crocodile Teeth, a never before heard freestyle in the form of Seeing Green featuring Drake and Lil Wayne, and a new record called Fractions.

Announcing the release of the mixtape during an Instagram Live on Thursday (May 13), Minaj said the re-release was so she could “get back to the basics…(and) to the essence of why (she) started rapping”.

However, in an effort to get fans excited about the re-release, she made the decision to include some “new joints”.

Minaj said the re-release is in preparation for what is to come in her new album, which, as well as her documentary, is expected to be released soon.

The Super Bass rapper, who gave birth to a handsome baby boy she calls ‘Papa Bear’, said during her hiatus from the music world she enjoyed some much-needed time with her son, who she proudly admitted said the word “Mama” for the first time earlier this week.

Minaj also mentioned that she had experienced a stint of writer’s block, and credited Hotline Bling singer Drake, for his assistance in getting her out of it.

Minaj said: “He singlehandedly got me out of my writer’s block and I’m never going to forget it and I will shout it to the motherf@#$… world on the mountain top.”

“He sent me something and it made me feel so competitive again, I was like, ‘Yo, what the f@#$ am I doing… like you need to start writing’ and whenever I hear Drake and Wayne rap it always inspires something in me…” said Minaj.

Drake, who later joined Minaj’s live, said that while he knew her priorities had changed, now that she is a mother, he has been on her to get back to producing music.

He said: “When you are gone… we really miss you, we really miss your presence, we miss the bars, we miss the excitement that you bring… .”

Since the album’s release at midnight, today the words, “#NICKIMINAJ”, “Crocodile Teeth” and “Itty Bitty Piggy” have all been trending on Jamaican Twitter.
