Dancehall artiste Busy Signal has accused the Canadian High Commission of prejudice and racism after his visa application was denied, preventing his upcoming concert in Canada.
The entertainer, whose real name is Reanno Devon Gordon, shared the rejection letter and his response on social media, expressing frustration over the decision. The official letter from the Canadian High Commission, dated December 19, 2024, stated:
“I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay as required by paragraph 179(b) of the IRPR. I am refusing your application because you have not established that you will leave Canada, based on the following factors: The purpose of your visit to Canada is not consistent with a temporary stay given the details you have provided in your application.”
Responding to the denial, Busy Signal wrote:
“As a globally recognised Jamaican artist with an impeccable business track record, no current police record of any sort from any country, with active visas from the U.K., the U.S.A., and Europe, I am calling on my country’s authorities for support in addressing the injustice, prejudice, and racism response I received when the Canadian High Commission/Embassy denied my visa application, citing that I would not leave Canada.”
The artiste, known for hits such as One More Night and Stay So, noted great disappointment, stating he had no intention of overstaying his visit and was merely seeking to perform for his Canadian fans.
