Prime Minister Andrew Holness says plans are still in place to host the local government elections on February 28.
“The Government intends to fulfil the constitutional requirements and the Constitution as it relates to the local government elections. They have set a date. It has been postponed. If there is an exogenous shock or weather event, then certainly that has to be considered but as it is now, it is the intention of the Government to fulfil its constitutional duties,” the prime minister said.
He was speaking at a quarterly press conference on Thursday, August 3.
The local government election was postponed twice, the latest being in February of this year due to the ongoing global coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The local government election was last held in 2016.
