The Cannabis Licensing Authority (CLA) has declared it is unaware of a shortage of ganja impacting the local medical marijuana industry.

Faith Graham, the CLA’s acting senior director of operations, said the Authority routinely monitors ganja inventory of licensees, through its Enforcement and Monitoring section, and that there was no evidence to indicate a shortage of ganja within the regulated space.

“There has been no such report from CLA licensees and checks made with licensees have confirmed that there is no shortage,” Graham said.

She was reacting to media reports this week that adverse weather conditions – particularly those associated with storm systems Eta and Zeta last year – as well as inferior plant strains had contributed to a setback in cultivation, both legal and illegal.

Last night the CLA said there was currently no need for concern in relation to the availability of cannabis, in the regulated space, for consumers requiring product for medical, scientific or therapeutic purposes.
