Former Def Jam boss, Russell Simmons was sued yesterday in a New York federal court for sexual harassment and battery.
The woman who is pursuing this legal claim is from Los Angeles and worked with Simmons at Def Jam.
She now says her career in the music industry has been ruined because of Simmons.
Part of the suit reads: “At the peak of her career success at Def Jam, making award-winning videos for their biggest artists, she experienced overwhelming anxiety, shame, humuliation and debilitating low self-esteem.
“She suffered frequent panic attacks, struggling to go to the Def Jam office or to function in her leadership role. She tried to continue to work at Def Jam, but just a short-time after the assault, to the surprise of peers and colleagues, she gave notice, quit the job she loved and moved across the country to California.

“She eventually confided in a small group of trusted friends and therapists about what happened-long before the passage of New York’s Adult Survivors Act in 2022.”
It’s been a particularly bad time for some of America’s biggest black entertainment stars facing sexual abuse charges.
First came Diddy, then Jamie Foxx followed by Vin Diesel and now Russell Simmons.
Simmons now 66, lives in Bali. The woman accusing him of this heinous act, says he raped her in his apartment back in the 90s.

Back in 2017, former Def Jam executive Drew Dixon claimed Russell Simmons raped her when she was 24.
Jenny Lumet also accused Simmons of sexually assaulting her in graphic details.
Music journalist Toni Sallie has also recounted how the hip-hop mogul violently raped her in his apartment in 1988.
Simmons said: “I vehemently deny all these allegations. These horrific accusations have shocked me to my core and all of my relationships have been consensual.
“I have enormous respect for the women’s movement worldwide and their struggle for respect, dignity, equality and power.”
