The funeral for slain social media personality Aneka ‘Slickianna’ Townsend took place on Thursday (December 1) at the Webster Memorial United Church in St Andrew, with family and friends turning out to bid farewell to the woman they described as a ‘precious gem’, virtuous and treasured.
Her mother, Joy Smith, was on an emotional rollercoaster throughout the ceremony as she pleaded with attendees to not take photos of her daughter’s face.

“Just take the casket please. Mi nuh want her on Instagram. Please, mi a beg unu,” the grief-stricken mother pleaded.
On October 21, news surfaced on social media that the body of a woman believed to be that of the popular social media personality was seen floating at Reading in Montego Bay, St James.
The body was identified by family members as that of Townsend several hours later.

With this news, several social media personalities took to various platforms to send condolences to the family and friends of Townsend and also to express their sadness, shock, and utter disbelief at the senseless murder of the 35-year-old.
Many of them posted pictures and video of themselves along with the slain social media personality, captioned with lengthy text and crying emojis.
Some of them, in their posts, questioned God. Others asked why, and almost everyone said she was a good person who didn’t deserve the demise she met.

It is only natural that many would have expected her fellow social personalities and colleagues to take their support even further by attending her funeral in person, but this did not appear to be the case.
Despite being a member of the social media community, her thanksgiving service was sparsely attended by social media personalities with only a handful observed by the Our Today team, some of whom were busy taking photos or getting videos.
