The National Water Commission (NWC) says a dam featured in a series of videos on social media, where some teenagers were seen swimming, is not a water facility of the company.

The group of teenagers could be seen in a video directing comments towards the NWC before skating across a waterway. Our Today could not immediately verify the location of the dam.

The NWC, in a statement, while dismissing claims that the location highlighted is a facility of the company, said its staff and security work tirelessly to monitor and protect its sources and treatment plants.

Meanwhile, the company said water from river sources is normally harnessed near the river head or via a separate channel that leads to the NWC plant.

“River sources only form one-third of sources used by the NWC. The majority of the sources are wells and springs, which are usually designed solely for NWC,” it said.

“The NWC also collects samples of raw water at a number of large river sources before the water enters its treatment facility. This is a precautionary measure to safeguard the quality of the water even before treatment commences.”

The NWC says water is then treated and delivered to customers in keeping with the Ministry of Health and Wellness and World Health Organization (WHO) standards.
