Hollywood movie star Johnny Depp has denied reports he is in talks with Disney to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean’ franchise.

The 59-year-old actor issued a statement to set the record straight, after Australian gossip website, Poptopic claimed Disney were working on a multi-million dollar deal to persuade him to return as the pirate he has played five times in the hit action adventure movies.

Depp’s spokesperson told Fox News Digital he is not in talks to return as Jack Sparrow.

Disney is currently working on reviving the franchise with a sixth film, starring actress Margot Robbie.

Depp previously said “nothing on this Earth” would get him to go back and work with Disney on a ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ film, during his testimony in the recent defamation trial against his ex-wife, actress Amber Heard.

Depp said he felt betrayed by Disney and made the comment after he felt the company had shunned him.

A jury ruled against Heard in the defamation trial and ordered her to pay Depp US$10.35 million in damages.

Depp had said that, while Disney had distanced themselves from him following his public divorce battle with Heard in 2017, it continued to use his image on amusement park rides and sell merchandise featuring him.

Depp had sued Heard for libelling him in an article she wrote in 2018, alleging that she was a domestic abuse survivor.
