The late American fashion designer Virgil Abloh was honoured on Monday (December 6), with a full memorial service in his hometown of Illinois Chicago. Many big name celebrities came out to commemorate the Off-White founder.

The service, which took place at the Museum of Contemporary Art saw scores of people in attendance including the likes of Ye (formerly Kanye West), Kim Kardashian-West, Rihanna and A$AP Rocky.

American rapper Tyler the Creator penned the eulogy for the groundbreaking designer and broke down in tears as he delivered it.

Many tributes and stories were shared about Abloh, as well as a tearful performance from singer-songwriter Lauryn Hill. Other notable personalities in attendance included Drake, Kid Cudi and Frank Ocean.

Virgil’s sister, Edwina Abloh, also shared a heartfelt speech about the designer’s influence and how much he will be missed.

“Virgil inspired multitudes to never relent and to be the best version of themselves. My brother was endearing and humble, yet daring and courageous. His charisma and aura resonated love and kindness to all… . As Virgil once said in his last show, ‘there is no limit, life is short and you can’t waste even a day subscribing to what people think you should do’… . Virgil left a permanent mark on the world and which we will never forget,” Edwina shared with tears in her eyes.

Virgil Abloh passed away on November 28 after a private battle with cancer. His death sent shockwaves throughout Hollywood and beyond.

As well as founder and CEO of Off-White, Abloh was artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s men’s line.
