
Jamaica picked up its third and fourth medals at the World U20 Championships in Nairobi, Kenya today, when Ackera Nugent won gold in the 100m hurdles and Vashaun Vascianna, silver in the 110m hurdles.
Nugent clocked 12.95 to crown herself World U20 champion in a race when medal favourite Ditaji Kambundji of Switzerland and Viktoria Forster of Slovakia crashed out and were eventually disqualified.
Emerging from the carnage, Anna Maria Millend of Estonia clocked 13.45 to take home the silver medal while Anna Toth of Hungary ran 13.58 to win the bronze medal.
Meanwhile, Vascianna clocked a personal best 13.25 to win the silver medal in the 110m hurdles that was won by Sasha Zhoysa of France who blazed to a World U20 record of 12.72 which broke the record of 12.73 he set in the semi-finals.
Poland’s Jakub Szymanski ran a personal best of 13.43 for the bronze medal.
Jamaica now has two gold medals at the championships as Tina Clayton won the 100m title in a personal best 11.09 on Thursday.
