The Nuh Dutty Up Jamaica campaign, led by the Jamaica Environmental Trust (JET) with the support of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme, is now recruiting coordinators to host clean-ups in 25 communities.
The clean-up campaign, which was relaunched on Wednesday (February 15) by the JET, will provide 25 communities with kits to facilitate inland and coastal clean-ups such as gloves, garbage bags, shirts and reusable water bottles, in addition to information about garbage collectors and recyclers.
Each group will also be invited to a virtual Nuh Dutty Up Jamaica training workshop. The deadline for applications will close on March 1 at noon.
Individuals can visit the organisation’s social media website for additional information.
This year’s campaign is geared towards improving citizens’ knowledge about the impact of poorly handled waste on public health and the environment while encouraging personal responsibility for the generation and disposal of waste.
Jamaica’s garbage situation is an ongoing issue which poses a threat to our environment and marine life.
The campaign was first launched in February 2015 and is a component of the Clean Coast project led by JET with the support of the Tourism Enhancement Fund.
