The National Works Agency (NWA) has announced that commencing at 7:00 pm on Saturday, January 24, the roadway from Browns Town to Alexandria in St Ann, in the vicinity of Top Road, will be closed for pavement repairs.
The NWA says single lane access will be maintained for large motor vehicles.
The closure will be in effect for three weeks.
NWA Communication Officer Natalee Bloomfield says the roadway is being closed to facilitate the replacement of NWC pipes as well as the installation of rigid (concrete) pavement.
She says the works form part of a road rehabilitation project that commenced last calendar year, and saw the construction of a concrete cross drain, pothole and patch repair, as well as road marking.
Bloomfield further stated that the current works were the only activities that were outstanding and will be done in the vicinity of the Browns Town Market.
The project is valued at $47.3 million.
During the period of closure, motorists travelling towards Alexandria should use St Hilda’s Drive and continue onto York Castle Drive.
Motorists travelling towards Browns Town will use either North Street onto Musgrave Street, continuing onto Bottom Road, or they can use Court Street onto Bottom Road.
The alternative routes cannot accommodate large units.
Motorists are further advised to exercise caution while the works are ongoing and to obey the instructions of posted warning signs.
