
Senator Matthew Samuda, minister without portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation, received a shipment of pipes on behalf of the National Water Commission (NWC), valued at approximately J$1.3 billion at the Kingston Wharves yesterday (March 29).
The large ductile iron pipes were procured and delivered by the contractor, Deryck A Gibson Limited, and range from 100mm or 4 inches to 600mm or 24 inches in diameter.
According to the ministry, the pipes will be used on at least nine project locations island-wide.
“With the delivery of this shipment of pipes we are that much closer to the implementation of improvement projects that will directly benefit thousands of Jamaicans in both urban and rural communities,” Minister Samuda said.

The areas to receive the pipes include:
- 6” and 24” pipes for the Greater Mandeville Water Supply Improvement Project, Kingsland to Greenvale, Phase 1-A2 in Manchester
- 6” pipes for the Hounslow Water Supply: Hopewell to Billy’s Bay/Treasure Beach (Fort Charles Road) Pipeline, in St Elizabeth
- 12” pipes for the Minard Well to Minard Relift in Brown’s Town, St Ann
- 4”, 8” and 12” pipes for the Whitehall Water Supply Project in St Thomas
- 16” pipes for the Stanton Terrace to Marescaux Road Pipeline Project in KSA
- 12” pipes for Ferry to Rock Pond, St Andrew
- 12” pipes for Mammee Bay to St Ann’s Bay, in St Ann
- 24” pipes for Molynes/Washington Blvd to Dunrobin Avenue/Constant Spring Road in St Andrew
- 6” pipes for Oracabessa/Hamilton Mountain Project in St Mary
“In addition to these pipes, the commitment of the Government of Jamaica and the NWC is to undertake many more such projects valued at up to J$7 billion this coming year,” Samuda added.
