Ocho Rios High has been deducted six points by the InterSecondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) for using an ineligible player in matches against Ferncourt High and Marcus Garvey Technical in their DaCosta Cup Zone K encounters.

According to ISSA, the player had accumulated three yellow cards and should have missed the next game, but instead, he ended up playing two more games.

Based on rule A.15 of the ISSA 2024 Schoolboy Football Handbook, “If a player receives 3 yellow cards in the preliminary round, he will automatically miss his team’s next match.”

He was ineligible to play in Ocho Rios High’s match on Tuesday, September 24 against Ferncourt High. He also subsequently played in the match vs Marcus Garvey Technical on Friday, September 27. These matches will be awarded to the opponent by three goals to nil (0).

With the massive six points deduction, Ocho Rios which was sitting in second spot with 12 points from six games, now slipped to fourth with six points. Brown’s Town High lead Zone K with 13 points with Ferncourt and Marcus Garvey moving to 12 points each in second and third spot respectively.

Aabuthnott Gallimore High are fifth on four points with York Castle High rooted at the bottom with two points.

It’s a major setback for Ocho Rios High in their quest to make the second round but certainly not beyond them with four sets of games remaining or 12 points to get.

In the games that they lost the points, Ocho Rios had defeated Ferncourt High 10-1 and Marcus Garvey High 8-0.
