ODPEM gives ‘All Clear’ as Hurricane Beryl moves away from Jamaica; tropical wave expected

The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) has given the ‘all clear’ following the passage of Hurricane Beryl.

This comes as the Meteorological Service of Jamaica has discontinued the hurricane warning for Jamaica as Hurricane Beryl continues to move away from the island.

The ODPEM says it has deactivated 100 shelters, while 165 remain activated in Jamaica. During the passage of the weather system, some 2000 Jamaicans accessed shelters across the island due to damage associated with Hurricane Beryl.

Meanwhile, the public is being asked to remain alert as a tropical wave is expected to move across Jamaica from Friday into Saturday, influencing unstable weather, including showers and thunderstorms, which could lead to flooding in flood-prone areas.

Jamaicans are being advised to continue to take the necessary safety precautions during the various clean-up exercises.
