The executive director of the Overseas Examinations Commission (OEC), Hector Stephenson, says all teachers who have marked school-based assessments (SBAs) in 2022 and 2023 have been paid.
He gave the update during a post-Cabinet press briefing on Wednesday (May 29).
“As of yesterday, May 28th, we have paid all teachers in the system who have marked SBAs in 2022 and 2023. With respect to 2022, those are retroactive payments, so all schools that have made submissions have been paid retroactive payments, and all schools that submitted information for 2023 have been paid,” Stephenson said.
The executive director said there are schools that have made submissions that were returned by the commission for correction. Stephenson explained that as soon as those errors are rectified, the payments will be completed.

Education Minister Fayval Williams also extended gratitude to teachers for their efforts in marking SBAs.
“I want to thank our teachers for the effort that goes into marking SBAs. Many people may not realize this, but the SBAs have been a part of the CXC’s assessment structure since its first examination in 1979, and these SBAs provide opportunities for our teachers to gather data on student performance over time. There are many modalities in which our students can present their SBAs, and they range from portfolios through journals, community projects, case studies, sporting activities, event planning, and designing and composing TVET subjects,” she said.
Additionally, she said SBAs are important as they allow students to present themselves in an area of their interest.
