Government minister Olivia ‘Babsy Grange has been released from the University Hospital of the West Indies where she had been undergoing treatment since early August.

Government spokesman Senator Abka Fitz-Henley confirmed that Grange was released from hospital on Saturday, August 31.

“Yes, Minister Grange was released from hospital today. She is doing well — in good spirits. I’d imagine the minister will take a few days to complete her recuperation, then will be back in office imminently to continue some of the good work she has been doing even while she was hospitalized,” Fitz-Henley said.

Grange — who is the minister of culture, gender, entertainment and sport — started receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital before August 6 with an undisclosed illness.

She was released from the ICU a few days later but continued treatment at the hospital.

Following her release on Saturday, Fitz-Henley said Grange, 78, expressed appreciation for the outpouring of love while in hospital.

“I can’t underscore this enough, the minister has asked me to convey to people in Jamaica and across the world who have been sending in love support and good wishes that she is deeply appreciative of the sentiments,” the senator added.
