After a surprising setback in Eugene, Olympic gold medalist Julien Alfred of St. Lucia stormed back to form with a commanding win in the women’s 100m at the Monaco Diamond League in Monte Carlo Friday.
Facing a stiff 1.4m/s headwind, Alfred overcame a slow start to power past USA’s Jacious Sears, crossing the line in 10.79 seconds. Sears secured second place in 11.02, while New Zealand’s Zoe Hobbs took third in 11.12.
This makes it the third time this season Alfred has clocked times in the 10.7s
Julian Alfred made history at the 2024 Paris Olympics, becoming St. Lucia’s first-ever Olympic medalist with a gold-winning time of 10.72 seconds, a time that became both the new national record and her personal best.
She didn’t stop there as she added a silver in the 200m (22.08), securing St. Lucia’s second Olympic medal. She finished her 2024 season by claiming the Diamond Trophy in the 100m with a 10.88-second finish at the Wanda Diamond League Final.
Alfred holds national records across multiple events, including the 60m (6.94) 200m (21.86) 300m (36.05) and 400m (52.97).
She has now made it to the Diamond League Final, which takes place in Zurich on August 27 and 28, 2025
